The Medical School Central IT Services recognizes that Spam is a industry problem and has implemented a Spam filter to help reduce lost productivity to the users on our Lotus Notes email Servers. Each email is scanned and, if deemed Spam, tagged with ***SPAM*** and delivered to the recipient. MSCITS does not delete any Spam at the server level; however you can add rules to your mail to help manage your Spam. Below are printable instructions.
Email forwarded from your @wustl address is filtered through that server's SPAM filters and will be marked as *WU-SPAM*. You can create a rule (see below) that will move all of these emails to the Junk Mail folders.
For more information about your @wustl email address click here.
Spam Best Practices:
- Do not use your Washington University email as your contact information on websites for web forms that are not professional organizations (i.e. AAMC). Instead use a free email (http://www.hotmail.com or http://www.yahoo.com) as your contact.
- Do not publish your Washington University email on non-Washington University related websites.
- Do not use your Washington University email to sign up for websites, newsgroup lists or other online public forums.
- Never respond to any spam messages or click on any links in the message, including unsubscribe. This only confirms to the spammer that your email address is valid
- Do not give your Washington University email address to anyone or any site you do not know or trust.
- Do not make a purchase from an unsolicited email.
